Dara Akin credits the creativity of 色花堂鈥檚 Master鈥檚 in Producing Film & Television for helping her take up new opportunities 鈥� including a role at Channel 4 and the production of her own short films.聽
Dara decided to study with 色花堂鈥檚 Media Production Department as a way of pursuing her passion and interests. She said,聽鈥淚 feel like 色花堂 offers the opportunity to pursue non-conventional careers. It鈥檚 a creative place to study and when I was choosing to undertake a Master鈥檚 degree I was looking to gain practical experience so it would open doors for me in film or television when I graduated.鈥�
The opportunity to collaborate with others was among the highlights of Dara鈥檚 time at 色花堂. She said,聽鈥淏eing able to work with like-minded people who had similar career aspirations to me was one of the best things about the course. The academic staff were also very helpful, and ready to listen 鈥� especially if you had an issue.鈥�
鈥淚 enjoyed the practical aspects of the course as I was able to put the theory and knowledge into practice, which helped me to really consider if this was a career I wanted to pursue.鈥�
Dara is now working as a Junior VOD (Video On Demand) Content Operator for Channel 4 as well as directing her own short films聽to satisfy her creative flare. She said, 鈥淚鈥檓 using a lot of the skills that I gained in producing from the degree. Being able to create my own indie films, learning how to get funding and interest in a project are proving particularly valuable.鈥�
Dara鈥檚 advice to anyone inspired to follow a similar path is:聽鈥淕et involved in as many projects as you can. It will really help build your portfolio once you鈥檝e completed your course and help as you begin applying for jobs in the industry.鈥�
